Week 5 Developments

I changed the look of the last car icon because it didn't give the look of the app, I gave it a more sporty look.

I also rejigged the menu to look more interesting, eventually using the camera mode as the background and only using the lower half of the page. The last one is where I settled, liking the style with the opaque black backdrop to the menu bar.

I also designed the camera map view mode as well as it with a popup overlaid. I used the same style as the menu page.

From there two videos where made to explore the usage of the current style, their stills are below.

The style wasn't used as much as was necessary in this video but the use of the hand was good. When we are going to use the hand we need to use of phone footage (being able to see the outside of the phone and maybe slightly the background) instead of phone footage (as if the viewer was looking through the phone, no outer) which is used here.

This video uses the style more but still doesn't completely work with it and the fictionality doesn't look right. Work needs to be done but we will write up a shot for shot list to work and film from which will help.

Interim Results

The style of the interim presentation video and pdf was all over the place and we need to narrow it down more to one effective style.
This screen isn't a good looking or useful home screen and I need to revise it.

The video needs work too, it does not express the intent of the application. Below are stills from the video presented. The style is starting to develop but it is still all over the place. The phone takes up too much of the screen and is just replaying the same video as on the outside. I am going to redesign the whole look to make it seem a whole.

Interim Presentation Preparation

  • What does your project achieve?
Our project looks to connect people who enjoy driving as a hobby and talking about cars. Creating a way of communicating and keeping a group of people on the same page when traveling. It also allows the user to identify other users cars just by sight, giving them information about the car and the username of the owner.

  • How does it work?
Home page:
The home page is the hub for the four main pages or groups;
The two map types (Map);
Information about the user and their car (My Car);
Options about the party, create, join or manage (Party);
A group of options (Settings).

Map:
The beginning map is the camera view and the second one is of the whole map where the route can be seen as a whole. These two maps can be changed between by a swipe of the hand over the screen (without touching it). Swiping from the right to the left changes the view from the camera view to the map view. Swiping from the left to the right changes the view back from the map view to the camera view.
Also on both the views, have a indicators that show where the other members of the party are in relation to the user's position as well as having the distance away labeled on the indicator.

My Car:
This screen allows the user to create a username for themselves as well as entering information and a picture of their car. They can be as detailed as they like, this information will be able to be seen by others who use the app.

Party:
When first using the app, opening the party option will present the user with two choices, to create a party or to join an already created party.
The creator of a party is the leader and has the power to choose the location for the whole party.
When a party is joined, the leader can manage the group. Also everyone can view the other members of the party and their information.

Settings:
Allows the user to modify their app to their own needs.

  • How is this MR?
The application uses the front facing camera when the phone is mounted on dashboard, overlaying information on the physical road on the street. This information includes the location of the friends in your party, the directions to the destination and any other important information.

Week 4 Development

The starting point for the menu/home page that contains options to go to the map, settings, my car and the party features. I experimented with the colour of the background, and the font, settling on a dark blue background and a serif type face.

Icons

Below are versions of the icon for our mixed reality app, using differing colours and ways of colouring. This has allowed for many versions to choose from for the final.

The icons below are going to be used in many different parts of the app. They may be changed or not used at all at this point.

First Video Mockup

These are stills from our first mockup video. It uses an upper bar feature which tracks the destination in relation to your position, directing you where to go, in this case it was a garage. It also has identified potential hazards to the driver. Another feature is showing where other uses of the app are and their car type.

The bar needs improving through the colour and style, also it would not work if the direction was behind the car. There is no style here at all and no other features or no way of reaching them. There is a lot of improvement needed.
